Last day with the bike today-- we rode the final 100 or so km to Da Nang from Hue this morning. When we left the hotel it was fairly rainy (our first rain this whole trip!) so we put on our rain gear and headed out. The rain didn't really stop until we reached a beautiful mountain pass, and cleared up completely as we got to the top. At the top of the mountain pass was a small town where we stopped for a cup of coffee and to enjoy the view. A great last day of riding (although I think we might rent a bike for a day trip tomorrow!). After we got into town and one of the guys from Hanoi Bikes picked up our honda, we settled into the small and very cute Daisy Hotel. We wandered around town a bit (we decided to stay on the more urban side of the bridge, the beach side across the bridge seemed eerily deserted) and finally settled on a family run restaurant tucked away in a small open sided building. The kitchen was under a tarp tent, many pots bubbling away with delicious broths. It seems to be working in our favor to have the woman running the kitchen choose our dinner for us (always delicious) and we were only given menus as a formality it seemed. We were presented with large bowls of Bun Bo Hue, the perfect dish for a rainy long day. Bun (rice noodles) Bo (beef) Hue is the signature dish of Hue, similar to a pho (noodle soup) it has a rich broth and lots of noodles and slices of meat, but has a bit of a kick. Extra chili and acid, it's a hearty and warming soup, and garnished with fresh herbs, lettuces, sliced garlic and scallions. Great meal to end the day.
